The Short To Holiness

S-Philip-Neri

We often make things overly complicated. The "Apostle of Rome", St. Philip Neri can help bring us back to essentials with his short maxims.  To combat the devil St. Philip urges --  “at communion we ought to ask for the remedy of the vice to which we feel ourselves most inclined.”

A couple additional morsels of his simple way:

“Excessive sadness seldom springs from any other source than pride.”

"A joyful heart is more easily made perfect than a downcast one."

"Men are generally the carpenters of their own crosses.”

"There is nothing the devil fears so much, or so much tries to hinder, as prayer."

“Well, my brothers, and when shall we begin to do good?”

Today.
